• There shall be women special seats in the local authorities as provided in the act. The requirements for submission of the proposed names of eligible women for special seats as prescribed in the act, shall be made through the submission to the commission of the completed nomination form no. 8E as prescribed in the first schedule to these regulations and the form shall be obtained from the commission or the returning officer. The names of candidates submitted to the commission under sub-regulation (2) shall be subjected to the compliance of the Election expenses act. • The commission shall, upon being satisfied that the candidate qualifies to be nominated as a member of council for women special seats, nominate such candidate. The commission shall send a notification of election to the respective council and political party. (Local authorities (councilors’ elections) regulations, article 62)
• There shall be women special seats in the local authorities as provided for under the local government (district authorities) act and the Local government (urban authorities) act. Every political party which contests councilor’s election in an ordinary election of councilors under the Local government (district authorities) act and the Local government (urban authorities) act in the councils may propose to the Electoral authority, names of eligible women candidates for nomination to women special seats. Subject to section 35 of the Local government (district authorities) act or, as the case may be, section 19 of the Local government (urban authorities) act, the Electoral authority shall specify the number of women candidates to be nominated by each political party. Each political party sponsoring women candidates for election shall, in not less than thirty days before election day, propose to the Electoral authority a list of such candidates. The list names of women proposed to the Electoral authority shall be in order of preference. Every woman candidate proposed to the Electoral authority shall be required to complete the nomination form. The provisions of section 39 of this act shall apply to every woman who is sponsored by a political party as a candidate. The Electoral authority shall, subject to section 39 of this act, the Local government (district authorities)act and Local government (urban authorities) act, and in accordance with the order of preference or priority indicated in the list proposed by each political party, declare such number of women candidates from the respective political parties to be elected Councilors for women special seats. • A city council shall consist of the following members: ... other councilors appointed by the minister, who shall not be more than 50% of the elected councilors, at least 40% of them shall be women. (Zanzibar local government authority act, article 18)
