• In accordance with the Local Government Act 1997, one-third of the seats in each council shall be served for women as follows: for the first local authority elections, one-third of the seats reserved for women shall be from every third electoral division in the Council; for subsequent local authority elections, one third of the total electoral divisions in each Council shall be reserved by rotation, but such rotation shall not exceed two terms of office. (Local government elections act, article 26.1A)
