• The nominations and proposals for candidacies for deputies, councilors, and board members will be governed by the principle of gender equality, so they must be integrated in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Parties, for no less than 40% nor more than 60% of men and women of the national proposal. (Law on the electoral regime, article 142)

• The form and mechanisms for choosing the candidates for popularly elected positions shall at all times respect the percentages for elective positions that this law establishes for men and women. The Central electoral board and the electoral boards will not admit a list of candidates for positions of popular election that contain less than forty percent (40%) and more than sixty percent (60%) of men and women. In the cases that these obligations are not fulfilled, the Central electoral board and the electoral boards will return said list to the corresponding party, group or political movement, so that within a period not exceeding seventy-two hours they comply with the law, otherwise, applications to political parties, groups and movements will not be accepted in electoral districts where this legal requirement has not been met, the presentation of candidates by the party, group or political movement in that district will be declared void. • In the proposals for elective positions at the municipal level, the political parties and movements are obliged to preserve and stimulate the participation of women, consequently when the candidate for administrator is a man, the candidate for vice-administrator will be a woman. In the candidacies for alderman and his alternates, the political parties and movements must present women for 33% of the candidacies. In municipalities where only 5 council members are elected, all candidate proposals must include a minimum of two women. (Law of the National District and Municipalities, article 34)
