• The list presented, under penalty of being rejected, must take into account the parity of women and men and reserve, at least, half (1/2) of the candidatures for candidates aged under forty (40), and that at least one third (1/3) of the candidates on the list have a university level. However, the condition of parity only applies to municipalities whose number of inhabitants is equal to or greater than twenty thousand (20,000) inhabitants (Electoral code, article 176).

Legal provisions - Parity Law
• The number of women appearing on the candidate lists, whether independent or presented by one or more political parties, must not be less than the proportions defined below, in proportion to the number of seats to be filled. Elections of popular assemblies of wilayas (provinces): 30% when the number of seats is 35, 39, 43 and 47 seats, 35% when the number of seats is 51 to 55 seats. Elections of municipal popular assemblies: 30% for the communal popular assemblies located in the capitals of the daïras and within the communes whose number of inhabitants is greater than twenty thousand (20,000) inhabitants. • Any list of candidates for an election established in violation of the provisions of article 2 of this organic law is rejected. However, a period is granted to rectify the compliance of the candidate lists, as long as it does not exceed the month preceding the election date. (Law on the modalities for improving the representation of women in elected assemblies, article 5)
• Political parties can benefit from specific financial assistance from the State, depending on the number of their candidates elected to the popular communal and provincial assemblies and to the parliament. (Law on the modalities for Improving the representation of women in elected assemblies, article 7)
