Lower House:
• The candidacies presented for elections of members of Congress, municipal representatives, members of island councils, members of the European Parliament, andmembers of the Legislative Assemblies of the autonomous communities and General Assemblies of the Basque Historical Territories must have an equal composition of women and men, with the lists composed of persons of both sexes aranged alternatively. (Law on the General Electoral Regime, Article 44bis.1)
• The proclamation of candidacies that do not meet the stated with requirements indicated in the previous articles or those established by the special provisions of this Law shall not proceed. (Law on the General Electoral Regime, article 47.4)
Upper House:
• When the candidates for the Senate are grouped into lists, in accordance with the provisions of article 171 of this Law, such lists must also have an equal composition of women and men, as established in paragraph 1. (Law on the General Electoral Regime, article 44bis.4)
• The proclamation of candidacies that do not comply with the requirements indicated in the previous articles or those established by the special provisions of this Law shall not proceed. (Law on the General Electoral Regime, article 474)
