Legal provisions - Parity Law
Lower House:
• The candidacy quota for women and young people in the elections referred to in this law is distributed as follows: 30% women and 20% youth. (quota law, article 4)
• The quota fixed by this law concerns the legislative elections, the elections of the local Councils, the elections of the office of the National Assembly and the offices of the Permanent General Committees (quota law, article 5)
• The quota fixed by this law applies to the titular candidacies presented by any political party or group of political parties in the elections of deputies, senators and members of local councils. (quota law, article 6)
• Within five days following the closing of the filing of the lists, the National Autonomous and Permanent Electoral Commission sends to the political parties or groups of political parties its observations on the application of the provisions of this law. Political parties or groups of political parties that have not observed the provisions of this law have 48 hours to comply. (quota law, article 9)
• In the context of single-member polls, any political party or group of political parties that does not comply with this law, incurs the suspension of its participation in the planned elections or the loss of 50% of the public financing of the electoral campaign. (quota law, article 11)
