According to Article 51 of the Constitution, "There shall be three hundred and thirty-six seats for members in the National Assembly, including seats reserved for women and non-Muslims", with a total of 60 seats for women. Furthermore, Article 59 of the Constitution states that "The Senate shall consist of ninety-six members, of whom, two on general seats, and one woman and one technocrat including aalim shall be elected from the Federal Capital; four women shall be elected by the members of each Provincial Assembly".

Lower House:
• There shall be seats in the National Assembly reserved for women and non-Muslims, as specified in Article 51. (Election Law 2017, Article 18)
• A political party shall make the selection of candidates for elective offices, including membership of the Majlis-e-Shoora (the National Assembly), ensuring at least a 5% representation of women candidates. (Election Law 2017, Article 206)
• For the purpose of election to seats reserved for women and non-Muslims in an Assembly, the political parties contesting election for such seats shall, file separate lists of their candidates in order of priority for seats reserved for women and non-Muslims with the Election Commission of Pakistan. Where a seat reserved for women or non-Muslims in an Assembly falls vacant as a result of death, resignation or disqualification of a Member, it shall be filled in by the next person in order of precedence from the party‘s list of candidates submitted to the Commission. (Election Law 2017, Article 104)
